Nurses Advanced Laparoscopy Surgery Training Program

Course Overview
A team approach by all surgical team members is essential for providing a positive outcome for Laparoscopic surgery. Success and positive outcomes are closely linked to the training and experience of the surgical team. A basic undeSrstanding of the anatomy and physiology of the surgical approach provides all team members with guidelines as to the expectations of the surgeon and desired outcome. This knowledge is essential in providing decisions around positioning and plan of care. This program can help the participants anticipate potential complications so they can be responded to in a more efficient manner.

Objectives

Individuals completing this program should be able to:

       1.   Describe the function and features of the major components of an endoscopic video _______isystem.
       2.   List the steps required to set up and connect the various components of an endoscopic _______ivisualization system.
       3.   Explain the steps that can be taken if the system appears to be malfunctioning.
       4.   Discuss how to decontaminate and disinfect or sterilize the components of the system _____i__ithat will be used at the sterile field.
       5.   Describe the steps in the techniques of the advanced laparoscopic procedures.
       6.   Demonstrate efficient, ergonomically friendly OR set-up.
       7.   Perform simulated laparoscopic tasks.
