:: CHOOSING SURGERY

Weight loss surgery is a life-changing experience. A key factor in making the decision to have weight loss surgery is your level of commitment, both physically and mentally, to the new lifestyle you will be required to follow.

With this in mind, you must be prepared for the long journey that includes extensive pre-operative testing. Our office follows a strict protocol in order to determine whether you are a candidate for the surgery. You will be evaluated by a variety of specialists from cardiologists to psychiatrists to ensure that you are medically and mentally ready for the next step.

Weight loss surgery is the first step of a lifelong process. Post-operative follow-up with our team is critical to your continued success.

Get educated about weight loss surgery
As you are considering undergoing weight loss surgery, it is in your best interest to take an active role in learning as much as you can about the different procedural options and life changing results. Being knowledgeable prior to your first meeting with a surgeon gives you a great advantage. You will know what questions to ask, as well as, be prepared with thorough answers to the questions asked of you.

There are many resources available for getting educated about weight loss surgery:

The Internet is a source of extensive information on weight loss surgery. Sites dedicated to this subject range from those created by bariatric surgeons and/or surgical groups to sites created by real weight loss surgery patients to sites created by medical device companies. Each provides a different perspective on the subject and are useful when obtaining clinical information, as well as personal experiences and opinions.

Another resource would be joining an on-site or online support group meeting. At these meetings you can talk with other weight loss surgery patients, in addition to medical professionals such as surgeons, nutritionists, exercise physiologists, psychiatrists, and others.
