OUR PROGRAM

Pre-operative Testing

Prior to scheduling your surgery, you are required to undergo an extensive preoperative workup. Depending on any health conditions you may have, testing will be different for each individual. In general, you will be required to see these specialists:

  • Primary Care Doctor (obtain letter of medical clearance)
  • Cardiologist
  • Nutritionist/Dietician
  • Pulmonologist
  • Psychiatrist

In addition, you will also be required to have the following testing completed:

  • Blood Workup (B12, CBC, LFT, TFT, SMA7, Coagulation — PT/PTT, Pregnancy test for females)
  • Routine Urinalysis
  • EKG
  • Chest X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Upper GI Series

It is preferred that all of the above testing be completed by our physicians at Beth Israel, but you do have the option of going elsewhere. If you do decide to have your pre-operative testing done at an outside lab, please be sure that the reports are submitted to us as quickly as possible.
